Vicki and Eric Swenson-Lee invited their four orphaned nieces and nephews to become
part of their family after Vicki's sister, Teri Lee, was murdered, by her estranged
ex-boyfriend in 2006. The children’s father had been killed in a car accident in
2001. Already having three young daughters and expecting a fourth, Vicki and Eric
feared their teacher’s salaries would not be enough to raise eight children, much
less renovate their existing home to accommodate everyone.
In honor of her late sister,
Vicki helped write two bills that have been passed into legislation, to help protect
women and children against domestic violence.
